Shared Room
Warm & SociableTwo residents per room with comfortable care beds and a shared bathroom. Ideal for those who enjoy companionship and the gentle reassurance of not being alone at night.
Karibu Care Home is a boutique 10-bed residence located in the Namugungo neighbourhood offering 24/7 nursing care, warm home-like living, and personal attention for every resident — because some things shouldn't be done in a hospital.
Karibu was born the way most meaningful things are — out of a family's own struggle. Watching a beloved parent's health decline while juggling work, children, and the guilt of not being there enough, our founder realised something painful: Kampala had hospitals, and it had nursing aides you could hire for the home. But there was no real middle ground. No place that felt like family but had the clinical care of a hospital when it was needed.
So we built one. A beautiful converted family home, capped at 10 residents, staffed by trained nurses around the clock. We cook real food. We remember birthdays. We send weekly video updates to families in London, Toronto, Boston, and Houston. And we treat every person under our roof the way we would treat our own mother.
We are conveniently located in the Namugongo neighbourhood — close to Kampala's major hospitals, so specialist care and emergency support are never more than minutes away when it matters most.
From morning medication to evening companionship, we handle every detail of daily life so your family member can simply live well.
Qualified nurses are on site around the clock — no overnight gaps, no "on-call" guesswork.
Bathing, dressing, and grooming delivered with dignity — plus daily room cleaning and laundry handled with care.
Supervised administration, clear tracking, and coordination with your parent's doctor or pharmacist.
Three nutritious home-cooked meals daily, with diabetic, soft, and cultural preferences accommodated.
Gentle exercise, mobility support, and fall-prevention — helping residents stay as independent as possible.
Games, garden time, music, outings, and conversation — because loneliness is its own kind of illness.
Short stays from a weekend upwards — full nursing care, meals, and activities included. Ideal when family carers need a break or are travelling.
Weekly written updates, photos, and video calls for diaspora families — you'll never feel out of the loop.
Choose the room that suits your loved one's preferences and care needs. Every room includes grab rails, non-slip flooring, and an emergency call button.
Two residents per room with comfortable care beds and a shared bathroom. Ideal for those who enjoy companionship and the gentle reassurance of not being alone at night.
A quiet private room with its own window, space for personal belongings, and access to a shared bathroom. Ideal for residents who prefer solitude and privacy.
Our largest rooms with a private en-suite bathroom — ideal for long-stay residents, those requiring higher care needs, or families wanting the very best.
Warm, open spaces designed to feel like home — because that's exactly what this is. A proper house, a garden, a kitchen that smells of breakfast.
Photographs tell only a small part of the story — the rest is best felt in person.
Five things we do differently — and why they matter when the person in our care is yours.
A maximum of 10 residents means every person gets individual attention — never a number on a ward.
A real converted family home with gardens, a kitchen, and living areas — not a clinical ward.
Not just carers — qualified nursing professionals, present overnight and on weekends.
Weekly updates, scheduled video calls, and transparent billing — so you know how your parent is, always.
Secure perimeter, non-slip flooring, grab rails, and emergency call buttons throughout the home.
One clear daily rate covers almost everything. We believe families deserve to know exactly what they're paying for.
All rates include accommodation, meals, 24/7 nursing care, medication management, housekeeping, social activities, and unlimited Wi-Fi. Additional charges may apply for specialist medical visits, scheduled physiotherapy sessions, or personal items requested by the family. We believe in full transparency — no surprises, ever.
Request a Full Pricing GuidePay from wherever you live, in whatever currency you earn — no complicated wires, no FX surprises tacked on by us.
The simplest option for US-based families. Send directly from any major US bank — Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citi and most others.
Send GBP, EUR, or any major currency via SWIFT, Wise, Revolut, or your bank. We share full bank details once you've booked a tour.
For relatives based in Uganda paying alongside you. MTN MoMo, Airtel Money, or any Ugandan bank — quick, familiar, and verified instantly.
Foreign-currency payments are converted at the prevailing UGX rate on the day funds are received, using our partner bank's published rate. We charge no FX margin. A clear receipt showing UGX, foreign currency, exchange rate, and date is emailed to every family within 24 hours.
Most of our families live thousands of miles from Kampala. Everything below exists because of them — and because being the parent of a parent is hard enough without adding logistics, time zones, and currency confusion to it.
We collect your loved one from Entebbe arrivals — name on a sign, luggage handled, gentle drive home. No taxis, no anxious phone calls, no scrambling. Available 24/7 for any flight, any airline.
Complimentary for confirmed residents booking a stay of seven days or more.
Settle bills in the currency you actually earn in. Send via Zelle from any US bank, international transfer from the UK or Europe, or Wise — converted at the day's prevailing UGX rate, no surprise FX fees added by us.
You don't need to fly home to choose a care home. We do guided video walk-throughs over WhatsApp or Zoom — every room, every staff member, every question answered, in your evening time zone.
Every Sunday: photos, a written update on mood, meals and medication, and a scheduled video call at a time that works in London evening, Toronto morning, Boston midday — whichever applies to you.
You'll have one person — by name, with their own WhatsApp — who knows your family and your parent. Not a switchboard. Not a different person each call. The same trusted face, every single time.
Talk to families in your city who've already been through this. With their permission, we'll connect you with current Karibu families in the UK, US, or Canada — let them tell you what it's actually like.
"Distance shouldn't mean disconnection. We'll bridge it for you."
Speak to a Family CoordinatorWarm, qualified, and here because they chose this work — not just because it's a job.

Twelve years of geriatric nursing experience. The calm voice your family will hear on every update call.

Oversees every resident's care plan and is the person your family will speak to first — however far away you are.

Known for her warmth, patience, and uncanny memory for every resident's favourite tea and morning routine.

Trained in nutrition for older adults, she cooks Ugandan and continental meals suited to every resident's needs.
After Mum's stroke, I felt like I was failing her every day from London. Karibu gave me back the ability to sleep. They send me photos on Sundays. She's eating again. She's laughing again. I don't know how to thank them.
I was terrified of putting Dad in a home — it felt like giving up. But this place isn't a home in that sense. It's just a home. He has friends here. He has routine. He has nurses who know his name and his stories.
Arranging care for my grandmother from Houston felt impossible. The team video-called me from her room on admission day so I could see everything. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare anywhere — and priceless when you're 12,000km away.
Still have questions? Send us a message — we answer every enquiry personally.
Yes — family is welcome every day. We ask that visits happen between 8am and 8pm so residents can keep a restful routine, but there's no booking system and you don't need to call ahead. For diaspora families, we also host scheduled video calls at times that work across time zones.
A trained nurse is on site 24 hours a day. For genuine emergencies we have a direct line to a partner hospital in Kampala and an agreement with a private ambulance service. Family members are contacted immediately, day or night, and are kept informed at every stage.
Care plans are reviewed monthly and whenever a resident's needs change. Our nursing team can accommodate increasing care needs — including post-stroke recovery, advanced mobility support, and palliative comfort care. If specialist medical input is needed, we coordinate directly with your chosen doctor.
Every family receives a weekly written update (photos included) covering meals, mood, activities, medication, and any notable events. We also schedule video calls at times that suit your time zone — whether you're in London, Toronto, Boston, or Houston. You can reach the Care Manager directly by WhatsApp whenever you need reassurance.
Absolutely — we encourage it. Photos, a favourite armchair, a small rug, bedding, their own clothes. A room that smells and feels like theirs makes the transition far easier. Just talk to us in advance so we can plan the space.
Our minimum stay is one month, though we strongly recommend longer stays because settling into a new home takes time. We also offer short-term respite care (from one week) for families who need a break or are arranging long-term plans.
Yes, we care for residents with early and moderate dementia. Our staff are trained in dementia-sensitive care, and the home is laid out safely with secure perimeters. For very advanced dementia with significant behavioural complexity, we'll discuss honestly whether our small facility is the right fit — we'd rather say no than promise care we can't fully deliver.
Completely straightforward. We do the full intake conversation over video call, review medical records digitally, and arrange transport from home or hospital to our facility. Payment can be made via international bank transfer or mobile money. We've done this many times for diaspora families — you don't need to fly home to get your parent settled.
Yes — for confirmed residents booking a stay of seven days or more, we collect your loved one directly from Entebbe arrivals at no charge. Name on a sign, luggage handled, gentle drive home. Available 24 hours a day for any flight. We just need the flight number and arrival date once it's booked. For tour visitors or shorter stays, we're glad to recommend trusted drivers we work with regularly.
Yes. Most diaspora families pay this way. US-based families typically use Zelle (no fees, instant) directly from their US bank. UK and European families send via SWIFT, Wise, or Revolut in GBP or EUR. We accept the day's prevailing UGX rate at our partner bank — we don't add an FX margin. Every payment generates a clear receipt showing both currencies, the rate applied, and the date.
The daily rates on this site are quoted in UGX since that's our local currency. When you pay from abroad, your bank or transfer service (Zelle, Wise, etc.) converts your USD/EUR/GBP at their rate. We then receive the UGX amount and apply it to your account at our partner bank's published rate for that day. The exchange-rate widget on the pricing section gives you an indicative figure — your actual cost will be within a percent or two of that, depending on your transfer provider's rate.
Whether you're ready to book a tour, or just want to ask a question without committing to anything — we're here. No pressure, no sales tactics. Just honest answers.
Choose a date and time that works for you. We'll confirm by phone or WhatsApp within one working day.
